There are 3 types of Black and Decker batteries, the spring loaded slide style, the Versapak battery and the pod style battery. The slide style battery comes in many different voltages such as 9.6V, 12V, 14.4V, 18V and 24V. Depending on the type of power tools and voltage rating you have you can buy a genuine original battery pack which are made by Black & Decker or a replacement battery made by other manufacturer. Like most genuine Black and Decker Battery it is equipped with the “no memory” technology which allows you to recharge it without having to drain all its power first. Meaning you can recharge it every after use so you can have a fully charge battery every time you need it. On the other hand, replacement batteries works basically the same, some probably don’t have the “no memory” function.
Some manufactures offers an improve version of these batteries, using different battery cells like NiMH and Lithium Ion instead of the usual NiCad. NiMH and Lithium Ion can store more power in less quantity, meaning you can make a battery half the size of the standard battery with the same or equivalent capacity. They cost almost double too though. Many people like them because they last longer, and allows you to do more job each charge.
